Performance Innovations @ London Metropolitan University: February Information Session
London Metropolitan University is creating a new opportunity for Dance and Performance practitioners who want to establish innovative and entrepreneurial pathways in the Performing Arts industry.
The Performance Innovations postgraduate certificate course will offer participants enterprise, business, creative and work-based learning opportunities that respond to individual career plans and industry needs. This unique programme comprises 3 modules, each designed to refine and develop your skills, ideas and potential in the following areas:
1/ Identify and develop and your creative performance practice
2/ Consider how it can be promoted and developed as a business
3/ Try out your ideas in a supported placement project.
The course has been developed, and will be led, by a team of individuals with a wealth of experience developing successful innovative performance-based projects and companies. Performance Innovations responds to the 21st century themes of enterprise, diversity and technology in creating strategies for maximising your potential to develop and sustain exciting futures.
The course will shape to the needs and ideas of participants and will be delivered through a flexible combination of weekend and weeklong intensives, work placements, tutorials, e-learning and evening sessions, commencing in March 2010 and completing in September 2010. Course participants will benefit from use of the studio, media, technical and learning facilities at London Met. Future 33% London.
Are YOU part of the future of London Theatre?
Could your work be part of 33% London 2011?
33% London is a year-round programme of work which supports the professional aspirations of Under 25's, as directors, writers, and other key creative professionals.
In March this year we will award bursaries of £500 each to six young artists to explore and idea and create a work-in-progress sharing by the summer.
Out of those, 2 will be chosen to be taken to full production for showcasing in 33% 2011, with a further bursary of £1,000 each.
Entry Criteria:
You will be 25 yrs or under by January 2011
You will not have worked professionally in the role you seek to take in your 33% London project
Entry Process:
Submissions to Stef O'Driscoll Stef.Odriscoll@ovalhouse.com (or to the address below) should consist of an account of the project you would like to explore e.g. the content, artform and style, your influences, why you are passionate about this project, who the ultimate audience would be. Tell us why you think you have the experience and capability to undertake the work and an outline as to how the £500 would be spent. You will need to include a copy of your CV, and a reference from someone who knows your work as an emerging young artist such as a teacher, youth theatre leader, theatre professional etc. You may also include a DVD of your work if relevant.
Submission deadline: March 12th
Interviews / presentations for shortlisted applicants: Sat 20th March
Bursaries announced: 23rd March.
Rehearsal space (within reason and as agreed with Oval house) will be provided, as will mentoring and minimal technical support.
Financial evidence will be needed for payment of the bursary, which will be paid according to an agreed budget, but it may include claims for travel and other expenses in making the work.

3/ IMMERSION 2010
The Immersion 2010 programme, held at Central St Martins - a part time 12 week course starting on 18th February 2010, designed specifically to give you the skills, confidence & guidance to carve out a career in your chosen sector, or start a business.
Immersion 2010 is a personal and professional development programme aimed at both employability and self employment. It is funded by HEFCE as part of UAL's ECIF funding (Economic Challenge Investment Fund) and is intended to support creative graduates during the recession. Immersion is delivered by CSM Innovation on behalf of University of the Arts London.
In addition to the twelve week part time programme, participants will be eligible to apply for a range of opportunities including a six month 'one to one' industry mentoring programme, and internship opportunities.
Date: 18th February - 13th May 2010 (part time, usually on a Tuesday and Thursday).
Price: £160.00 for 12 weeks inclusive. Places are limited. The course is heavily subsidised and highly vocational.

4/ WRITERS FOR THE ALBANY
Call For Writers at The Albany
The Albany Theatre in Deptford is putting a call out for bright new writers with a desire to write for theatre or performance poetry. We are looking for scripts focusing on youth and young people's experiences living in London, a hotly debated topic in the media. The writing selected will be developed by a professional director and actors, finally taking place as a rehearsed reading for a public audience at new writing night, Freshly Squeezed, in the Albany studio on 8th April 2010.
One piece will be chosen on the night by the audience and expert panel (award winning scriptwriter Che Walker, respected director Stef O'Driscoll and renowned writer and performer Zena Edwards) and will be given the opportunity to have a priceless one to one session with an established playwright.
